Constructive Feedback Friday

It's I Heart faces Constructive Feedback Friday!

original

my edit

Took this at a local Orchard. I entered it in the photo contest there and I'll find out this week if I won anything. I really love the photo, but I just can't seem to get it right. Help!

**update**
Sara emailed me her crop...here it is!

*sigh* oh how I love this shot. Your edit is really nice! I can't wait to see what others come up with!

First of all love the photo! When I first looked at it, I found the bush on the right distracting. I did a vertical crop on this and placed your little girl on the left third of the photo so that there was still plenty of open space to see the wonderful light on the path. I would be happy to email it to you if you would like me to show you what I did. I hope you win!

Beautiful photo! I don't have anything else to point out other than the previously mentioned bush. Good job!

Your edit is beautiful! But I definitely agree with Sarah about cropping out the bush! I love your photo and your edit but the cropping of the bush would definitely transform the photo!

I love your edit! I also think it might look great with the bush cropped so the focus goes more on her. :) Great job!

Great photo. She is beautiful and her outfit is adorable.

I have not seen this edit of the bush that is formentioned, and I am not a pro photographer by any means, but I actually think your edit is great and, I umm...actually think the bush adds to the photo. It may also look great without, but it does add to the story of the photos, no? I mean, she is at an orchard, correct? There are trees/bushes at orchards. Otherwise it just becomes an open field/path, and where is the story there? Beautiful still, but no longer an orchard. I think the path, with the bush, and the apple all tie together that she is on a path at teh Orchard. To me, it looks as though she just picked the apple of a bush/tree. I LOVE it. And she is already in 1/3 of the photo grid, so I think you are good there. I'm sure you could change everything around about the photo, but then, where did your story go? Of course, as I said, I have not seen the edited version, which may also be nice.

Good luck, hope you win! Thanks for sharing.

I realized that I should have posted the edit for everyone instead of just emailing it. Here is a link--- would love to hear thoughts. http://www.flickr.com/photos/11355942@N05/5062303351/

I just played around with the image. Since the girl is so sweet and innocent I decided to lighten the photo and make it look soft with warmth. I wanted to emphasize the girl and also that amazing bokeh you did behind her so I also cropped out the bush. Personally, I don't think it matters whether you keep it in or not but for my edit I liked the long focus to show how far the orchard goes down.

oh my! I love that edit! May i ask how you did that? I like that you left a little of the apple tree instead of cropping the whole thing out too. Love love love!

What wonderful shot, thank you for letting me work with it.

Like most of the comments posted I thought that it needed just a bit of cropping (but I love how New Mommy stated her case for keeping the greenery in the shot - I agree with her in that). I didn't crop as much as some but I love how the path is lit and with the editing, the sun seems to be casting a glow on that sweetie.

Here's what I did, working in PSE8.
Ran Simple Brighten on the little girl only
Ran Strawberries & Cream
Brightened up her eyes
Ran Vanilla Glaze at 45%
Ran Strawberry Glaze at 35%

Whoops... I guess I forgot to tell you what I did haha. I use PSPX2 to edit my photos.
-I messed with the levels a couple of times turning up the brightness and turning down the highlights (keeping the shadows the same).
-Then I used a filter tool to enhance reds and put a warming effect over the image.
-Lastly, I lightened up the image and cropped.

I liked the bush. I liked everything about your photo. I re-edited it, though. However, it doesn't look how it normally would if I had the original file. But here it is anyway. http://www.flickr.com/photos/34785003@N06/5122382518/

and the bush gives the photo more dimension. i would never take it out. a lot of photographers try to get that look, i don't see why you'd take it away.

PLEASE, do not use any of the pictures on this blog with out my permission. Thank you!
